How to Change Your Logo via the Wordpresss Control Panel

3 August 2009 No Comment

In our earlier article, “A Wordpress Theme Control Panel to Change the Site Logo”, we showed you how to add a Control Panel function to your theme to allow you to upload and change your default site logo.

In this Article, we’ll tell you how to use it!  Our example uses a banner logo that has the dimensions  960 x 178 pixels.

Step One WP-Admin

  • Login to your Wordpress Administration area, WP-Admin in the usual way
  • In the left hand column, expanded the Appearance tab
  • Click on the Custom Header sub-tab
  • A new window called Your Custom Header should appear

Step Two Your Custom Header

  • Ensuring you already have an image file of the correct dimensions ready, look for Choose an image from your computer
  • Click on Browse and direct the site to the image file
  • Click on Upload
  • If all has gone okay, the message Header complete! Visit your site and you should see the new header now should be displayed
  • Open your site in a new window to check

Step Three – If There is Writing Over the Logo

In the earlier article, we programmed the file header.php to display the Blog Title and Tagline by default: these are programmed in to display that information should the image file ever become corrupt or not exist

We need to remove this text via the Control Panel.  To do this:

  • Repeat Step One
  • In the Your Customer Header page click on Hide Text
  • Click on Save Changes
  • Go to your front-page and the text should be removed and the logo displayed

That’s it! :)
